Inn of Court
Southern California Business Litigation Inn of Court
Conversation With Mia Yamamoto
On November 29, 2016, the Southern California Business Litigation Inn of Court is proud to present a conversation with trailblazing attorney Mia Yamamoto. A transgender woman, Ms. Yamamoto is one of the most distinguished and successful criminal defense attorneys in Southern California and has lived an incredible life. She was born as Michael Yamamoto in Poston Relocation Camp, Arizona, and later enlisted in the Army in the 1960s. While serving in the Army, she was awarded the National Defense Service medal, Army Commendation Medal, and Vietnam campaign medal. Afterwards she enrolled in the UCLA School of law, where she co-founded the Asian Pacific Islander Law student association. In 1984, she opened her own practice, and has been working as a lawyer ever since.

Ms. Yamamoto will be interviewed by program chair Steve Rohde, constitutional lawyer and author, and will discuss her self-discovery and affirmation as a transgender woman, as well as the struggles and discrimination she has faced both as a result of her gender and racial identity over her long career. We strongly encourage you to attend this thought provoking program, which offers 1 hour Elimination of Bias MCLE credit.
