CLE Requirements: The State Bar of California requires attorneys to complete 25 credits, including 4 credits of legal ethics, 1 credit of competence issues, and 2 credits of elimination of bias, by January 31 every three years. At least one of the two elimination of bias credit hours must be devoted to implicit bias. There are three compliance groups, assigned by last name and staggered by year. All credits must be reported by February 1. No credits may be carried over to the next reporting period. For more information, please visit the FAQ page on the State Bar of California website.
NEW! Rule 2.72 of the Rules of the State Bar was revised to increase the elimination of bias requirement from one hour to two and to establish a sub-topic devoted to implicit bias. At least one of those two hours must be focused on implicit bias and the promotion of bias-reducing strategies to address how unintended biases regarding race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, or other characteristics undermine confidence in the legal system. A licensee shall meet the requirements of this section for each MCLE compliance period ending after January 31, 2022.
Learn about the specific requirements for newly-admitted California attorneys.
Completing Your California Requirements with BHBA: All courses viewed through BHBA OnDemand qualify as “participatory” credit. There is no limit to the number of credits an attorney can earn via participatory programs.
All BHBA courses are approved for participatory Minimum Continuing Legal Education credit by the State Bar of California in the amount shown in each course description and the Beverly Hills Bar Association certifies that this activity conforms to the standards for approved education activities prescribed by the rules and regulations of the State Bar of California governing minimum continuing legal education.
Attendance Reporting: Attorneys must report their own attendance to the State Bar of California. Members can report their credits through My State Bar Profile starting two months before their compliance deadline. Visit the State Bar of California’s MCLE FAQs for more details.
Once you watch a video, or attend one of our CLEs live on Zoom, your certificate is automatically emailed to you and is also stored in your BHBA+ profile. We make State Bar compliance a breeze. One-click and you have all your proofs of attendance ready to go. Individual certificates, self-study CLE tracking form, and a full list of courses taken right at your fingertips.
