About the Program

The program will provide an overview of Tax Court litigation procedure with practical tips for litigating a case in Tax Court. It will be presented by practitioners whose experience includes representing taxpayers, the IRS, and clerking for a Tax Court judge to hear all sides of how to best present a case in Tax Court

Assistant Professor of the Practice of Taxation University of Denver Sturm College of Law

Sabrina L. Strand is a tax attorney and Director of the University of Denver Low Income Taxpayer Clinic. She is also an Assistant Professor of the Practice of Taxation at the University of Denver, Sturm College of Law.

She has 10 years of experience in tax controversy matters; focused on resolving civil and criminal tax disputes with federal, state, and local taxing authorities including the IRS, DOJ, Colorado Department of Revenue and Colorado Department of Labor. Sabrina is a licensed in California, Colorado and Washington, DC. She is a former United States Tax Court clerk and had the privilege of clerking for Hon. Elizabeth Crewson Paris.

B.A. in International Relations from Occidental College; J.D., cum lade from Thomas Jefferson School of Law and LL.M. in Taxation from University of Denver School of Law

Michele Leichtman Weiss is a Principal at Holtz, Slavett & Drabkin. She has over 20 years of experience in tax controversy and litigation matters. Michele helps her clients resolve their civil and criminal tax matters. She represents her clients in all aspects of tax controversy, in examinations, appeals and collection matters, at the administrative level and in litigation with federal, state and local tax authorities including the IRS, FTB, California Department of Tax and Fee Administration (CDTFA), EDD, Board of Equalization, Office of Tax Appeals (OTA), the County Assessor and LA City Finance Office. Michele has expertise in many substantive and procedural tax issues including tax penalty abatement, conservation easement deductions, offshore disclosure matters, employment tax matters, sales tax audits, research and development credits, collection due process and non-profit matters.
