Judge Michael Convey started his judicial career in September 2002, when the judges of Los Angeles County appointed him as a Court Commissioner. Before his appointment, he practiced as a trial attorney, specializing in civil litigation, including insurance defense and coverage, and jury trials and appeals, in Phoenix, Arizona and Los Angeles, for fifteen years before his appointment. In September 2002, Judge Convey’s first assignment was to a family law general jurisdiction (home) court, in Lancaster. He has served in family law home courts in Van Nuys and at Stanley Mosk Courthouse. Governor Schwarzenegger appointed him to the position of Superior Court Judge in June 2010. Except for a year-and-a-half rotation in civil trial courts, Judge Convey has served continuously in the Family Law Division since 2002. Judge Convey is currently assigned to a Dedicated (Long Cause) Trial Court at the Stanley Mosk Courthouse-Department 77, where he has been since December 2019.
