Terry M. Magady

The Elder Law Center
About/Bio

Terry Magady is the founder and President of The Elder Law Center, a nationally recognized practice focused on the legal needs of older adults and individuals with disabilities. Known for taking on complex and challenging cases that others often consider impossible, Terry brings a creative and dynamic approach to elder law, combining deep legal expertise with a personal commitment to advocacy. He is one of only seven attorneys in Los Angeles County certified as an Elder Law Attorney by the National Elder Law Foundation and one of just 75 nationwide selected to the prestigious Council of Advanced Practitioners of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys. His specialties include asset protection from long-term medical costs, probate and trust litigation, conservatorships, and planning for individuals with special needs. At The Elder Law Center, each case is handled with the care and urgency one would give to a family member—reflecting Terry’s belief in leaving no stone unturned.

Terry’s passion for elder law was born from firsthand experience navigating the complex intersection of medical, legal, and bureaucratic systems on behalf of a loved one. That journey inspired the founding of The Elder Law Center and continues to drive his mission to help others find clarity and security in difficult times. In addition to his client work, Terry is a leading educator in the field. He regularly presents at Continuing Education of the Bar (CEB) seminars, including “Advanced Elder Law with Terry Magady,” and contributes to authoritative texts such as California Elder Law Resources, Benefits, and Planning: An Advocate’s Guide. A graduate of the University of Southern California Gould School of Law (J.D., Law Review), Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School (M.P.A.), and Occidental College (B.A., Phi Beta Kappa), Terry also holds leadership roles in several legal and community organizations, including the Beverly Hills Bar Association and the Westside Regional Center.
