Probate Conservatorship Practice
About the Program

In the aftermath of the Free Britney Movement, California enacted AB 1663 – The Probate Conservatorship Reform and Supported Decision-Making Act, which went into effect January 2023. During this presentation our speaker will walk through statutory changes to the Cal. Probate Code, Cal. Health & Safety Code and Cal Welfare & Institutions Code. Additionally, she will unpack the Supported Decision Making Agreement statutory scheme adopted in 2023 by California which joined the 27 states, including the District of Columbia, that have also adopted SDM legislation. Our speaker, Bertha Sanchez Hayden, is a Directing Attorney with Bet Tzedek Legal Services and oversees its Seniors, Dependent Adults, & Caregiver Direct Services & Access to Justice Programs. Bet Tzedek is a premier, nationally-recognized legal services law firm reaching 1000,000 plus individuals in 2022. Governor Newsom appointed Ms. Hayden to the Professional Fiduciaries Advisory Committee, where she currently serves as Chair. Additionally, she serves as Chair of the California Elder and Disability Justice Coordinating Council’s Conservatorship Working Group. This is a great session to stay current on new developments and to connect with pro bono work in the community.
