Nancy Potter is the founder of Potter Law, where she focuses her practice on education law and civil rights advocacy for students across the educational spectrum—from early intervention to post-secondary institutions. With over a decade of experience, she represents students and families in a wide range of education matters, including special education, Title IX, and campus discipline. Nancy also serves as an appointed advisor, independent hearing officer, and external investigator for both K-12 and higher education institutions. Her trauma-informed, student-centered approach emphasizes practical, legally sound solutions to help clients navigate complex institutional processes.
Before launching her own firm, Nancy led the Pittsburgh office of McAndrews Law Offices, litigating education-related civil rights disputes in both state and federal courts. She previously served as a supervising attorney at the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights, and held staff attorney roles at the Education Law Center and KidsVoice, where she worked on policy reform and legal advocacy for vulnerable youth. Nancy holds a B.S. from Oklahoma State University, a J.D. from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, and completed a judicial clerkship with the Honorable Oliver J. Lobaugh. Her work is driven by a commitment to ensuring equal access, safety, and opportunity for all students.
