Credit is all or nothing
If you join late or leave before the program ends, BHBA cannot issue credit for that program. BHBA cannot issue CLE credit where attendance cannot be verified. That is a State Bar requirement, not a BHBA preference.
Audio-only attendance does not earn credit
If you dial in by phone, your attendance cannot be verified and no credit is issued.

Every certificate is also stored in your BHBA+ account for five years. California only requires you to keep your records for one year after you report compliance, so BHBA+ holds them well past the point the State Bar can audit you.

Does BHBA report my credits to the State Bar?
Yes, for California. BHBA reports California CLE credit to the State Bar every Tuesday. You are still responsible for tracking your own hours and filing your compliance statement, since the State Bar does not track hours on your behalf.
California is automatic. BHBA is State Bar of California Approved MCLE Provider #43, a Multiple Activity Provider. Every program, live or OnDemand, is accredited and earns participatory credit. Nothing to file, nothing to request.
Everywhere else, check the individual registration page. Each program lists the jurisdictions it is approved for before you register. Here is how BHBA credit is generally treated in each one.
BHBA holds provider accreditation in Illinois, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Vermont. Credit still varies by program, so the registration page is the answer for any specific course.
Alaska, Connecticut, Hawaii, Maine, Montana, New York, North Dakota, and Wisconsin accept courses accredited in another jurisdiction, so a California-approved BHBA program generally qualifies. You submit it yourself. New York treats California as an Approved Jurisdiction, so keep your BHBA certificate and the written course materials. Both are in BHBA+. Connecticut counts a credit hour as 60 minutes of instruction rather than 50, so your Connecticut total may run slightly lower.
Arizona does not approve providers or programs at all. You evaluate the activity against Arizona’s standards and report it on your annual affidavit.
Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, and Rhode Island do not accept out-of-state credit, so a program has to be approved in that state directly. Ask us before you register.
In every remaining state, approval runs program by program. That covers Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Nebraska, Nevada, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, and Wyoming. Check the registration page, and if your state is not listed, ask.
Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Hampshire, South Dakota, and Washington DC have no MCLE requirement. Nothing to file.

Email and we will tell you whether we can get that program approved for your jurisdiction. Ask early. Most states have filing windows, and a few will not accept a late application at all.
Troubleshooting
What if something goes wrong?
I joined late or had to leave early.
Credit requires attending the full program, including Q&A. Partial hours are not available. If you were disconnected by a technical problem on our end, contact us the same day and we will look into it.
My name or bar number is wrong on my certificate.
Update your BHBA+ profile, then email and we will reissue the certificate. Your bar number needs to be in your profile before the program starts for California reporting to work.
I can't find a certificate from a program I attended.
Check BHBA+ first. Certificates stay there for five years. If it is not there, email with the program title and the date you attended.
I registered but can't attend.

Are BHBA OnDemand courses participatory credit in California?
Yes. BHBA is a Multiple Activity Provider, so every BHBA course, live webinar or OnDemand, earns participatory credit in California. California requires at least 12.5 of your 25 hours to be participatory, and there is no cap on how many participatory hours you can earn with BHBA.
How many credit hours is a program worth?
Divide the program's length in minutes by 60 and round to the nearest quarter hour. Every program page lists its credit hours and credit types before you register.
Can I share my registration link with someone at my firm?
No. Links are personalized and credit is tied to the BHBA+ account they belong to. Anyone else using the link cannot be issued credit, and it may block the account holder from being credited too.
Do I get credit if I only listen to the audio?
No. Phone-only and dial-in attendance cannot be verified, so no credit is issued.
What credit types does BHBA offer?
Civility, Elimination of Bias, General, Implicit Bias, Legal Ethics, Prevention and Detection Competence, Technology, and Wellness Competence. Each program page lists exactly which types it carries.
Does BHBA offer Legal Specialization credit?
Yes. Many BHBA programs carry California Board of Legal Specialization credit in addition to General and other MCLE credit. BHBA offers LSCLE credit in Appellate Law, Bankruptcy Law, Criminal Law, Estate Planning, Trust and Probate Law, Family Law, Immigration and Nationality Law, Legal Malpractice Law, and Taxation Law.
The registration page lists the specialization areas and hours a program carries before you register, and BHBA+ tracks your specialization credit separately from your general MCLE total.
