Hon. James Blancarte

The Hon. James E. Blancarte is a judge for the Los Angeles County Superior Court in California, appointed by former Governor Jerry Brown on December 14, 2018, to fill a vacancy created by the conversion of a court commissioner position.

Blancarte earned his bachelor’s degree from Pomona College and his J.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles School of Law in 1978.

After law school, Blancarte practiced privately, specializing in entertainment, media, broadcasting, and international law. He began as an associate at Mitchell, Silberberg and Knupp, becoming a partner in 1984. He later worked as a partner at Jeffer, Mangels, Butler & Marmaro (1991-1993), the Law Offices of James E. Blancarte (1993-2004), Carlsmith Ball (2004-2008), and Alvarado Smith (2009-2014).

In 2014, Blancarte became of counsel at Alvarado Smith, serving in that role until 2016, when he was appointed as a court commissioner for the Los Angeles County Superior Court.
