Judge Mark Young was appointed to the bench in 2008. After spending the first seven years in a criminal assignment, including a felony long-cause trial assignment, he has been assigned to Santa Monica as a civil judge. He is currently the Supervising Judge for the West District and handles an independent calendar courtroom. Prior to becoming a judge, he was an Assistant United States Attorney for the Central District of California for over 10 years. He held several positions, including Deputy Chief of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force and the Executive Assistant US Attorney.
