California’s Workplace Rules in the Pandemic and Post-pandemic World
Workplaces across California are reopening but even as restrictions are lifted, the panoply of existing laws, rules and regulations remain complex and often confusing. Using a game show format, the presenters will discuss how California?s COVID related laws have and may continue to impact the ever changing workplace. We will ask for audience input as we discuss what employers and employees need to know now and where we may be heading as we return to a new “normal”.
Leslie Wallis has represented employers in all aspects of employment law. Leslie joined Ogletree Deakins in 2007 as part of the merger of Ogletree Deakins and Lewis Fisher Henderson & Claxton. Leslie also served as in-house counsel at a financial institution representing the bank in a broad range of litigation matters, including trial work as well as monitoring outside counsel for the bank as both plaintiff and defendant. Leslie was also “loaned” to a large entertainment company for nearly a year as temporary in-house employment counsel and has a breadth of knowledge about the industry contributing to her advice and training for entertainment industry clients. Leslie now focuses her practice on advice and counsel for client across all industries advising on a broad range of employment issues and auditing, drafting and advising on employment policies and procedures. She performs workplace investigations and Leslie also spends significant time providing training in the areas of harassment, discrimination, diversity and inclusion, California laws and policies, workplace investigations and wage and hours issues. She also trains on wellness in the workplace.
Charles L. Thompson IV counsels and defends employers in wrongful termination, discrimination, and other employment-related matters. These areas include trade secrets and unfair competition, California and federal leaves of absence, ADA compliance, and wage and hour compliance.
Charles also represents employers in traditional labor law matters. He advises and represents employers in collective bargaining. He also represents employers in matters before the National Labor Relations Board, including in unfair labor practice and representation hearings. In addition, he represents employers in discharge and contract interpretation arbitrations.
Danielle represents and counsels private employers in a broad range of employment law matters. She defends clients when administrative charges are filed and when former or current employees initiate lawsuits in state court, federal court, and arbitration. Danielle’s litigation practice focuses on issues of requests for accommodations, leaves of absence, discrimination, retaliation, harassment, misclassification, and wage and hour requirements.
Danielle provides compliance-related and strategic advice to corporate clients on issues including employment and separation agreements, arbitration agreements, employee performance and discipline, workplace investigations, compliance with wage and hour laws, managing disability accommodation and leaves of absence, employee classification, and reductions in force. She also partners with companies to develop and implement employee handbooks and personnel policies and procedures, and provides training on maintaining harassment-free workplaces.
