The Ethics of Cannabis: Representing IP Clients in the Marijuana Industry
Although California has now voted to legalize marijuana, it remains a Schedule 1 controlled substance and is still subject to criminal prosecution federally. Intellectual property protections are primarily overseen by federal agencies (including the US Patent and Trademark Office). Representing businesses in the cannabis space for intellectual property protections therefore requires additional care and cautions. This program is intended to help practitioners navigate these choppy waters and avoid violating the relevant rules of ethics, and provide alternatives to help provide clients protection for their IP rights.
