Attorneys assisting clients with real property transactions need to have at least a general familiarity with insurance coverages. Leases, licenses for pop-up stores, construction contracts and other common agreements include insurance provisions. The requirements, the endorsements, and the policy language can be very specialized. The availability of different coverages and their costs can be significant. California’s insurance market currently is experiencing turmoil, with some insurers leaving the market. This seminar will be presented by an insurance agent and a lawyer with substantial experience in the area.
Laurence Hummer helps with the sale, leasing, and development of commercial and residential
real estate and with disputes over real estate, construction, business organizations, contracts,
and unfair competition. He has tried cases involving purchase contracts, construction contracts,
quiet title to real estate, commercial landlord-tenant disputes, and commercial collections. He
has resolved many real estate boundary, easement, and encroachment disputes for businesses
and homeowners. He is a member of the Executive Committee of the LACBA’s Real Property
Section. Mr. Hummer co-authored and regularly updates Chapter 8, Boundary Easements and
Neighboring Property Rights in the treatise California Easements and Boundaries: Law and
Litigation, published by Continuing Education of the Bar California.
