As a pivotal issue in the WGA and SAG strikes of this year, artificial intelligence is a source of growing concern and confusion across the entertainment business. This panel will discuss in what ways artificial intelligence and machine learning are currently being used in the audiovisual medium, what trepidations are felt around such uses and why, and insights for attorneys advising their clients in light of the inevitable integration of technologies such as artificial intelligence into the creative industry.
Todd Slavkin is a showrunner, writer, and director with over 35 years of experience in both film and television. He has a long-standing partnership with his friend and writing/producing collaborator, Darren Swimmer. His career spans various genres and includes involvement in popular television shows like “Smallville,” “Shadowhunters,” and “The Mysterious Benedict Society,” where he received two Emmy nominations for Best Writing for a Children and Family series and Best Children and Family series.
Shortly after film school in 2011, Amanda was hired as a special unit director on Neflix’s first
original series Hemlock Grove, thus starting her career in genre television. With a flair for SPFX
and VFX, she has directed and produced over 50 episodes of some of the most unique series of
the last decade, including Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, The 100, DC’s Doom Patrol, Marvel’s
Cloak & Dagger, Nancy Drew, The Spiderwick Chronicles and Chucky.
Ted Schilowitz is Futurist in Residence Paramount Pictures and 20th Century Fox. As the Futurist at Paramount pictures, Schilowitz works with studio leadership and the technology teams at Paramount / Viacom, exploring forms of new and emerging technologies, with an emphasis on Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality.
After spending four years working as a musician, with musicians, and for music companies in various facets including song pitching, A&R, film and TV licensing, recording, producing, songwriting, and performing in musical groups around the greater Los Angeles area, Michael Peters went to law school to pursue his passion for advocating for artists and the arts. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Southwestern Law School’s SCALE Accelerated 2-year program in 2018. While at Southwestern, Michael furthered his knowledge of and passion for the entertainment industry by concentrating in entertainment and media law. He was a Dean’s Fellow, a member of the Southwestern Negotiations Honors Program, and awarded the Biederman Scholarship.
Michael has experience in a wide variety of entertainment law matters including the litigation and negotiation of copyright, contract, and privacy disputes, as well as transactional work such as music production agreements, film and TV production counsel, distribution counsel, film finance, copyright clearance, corporate creation and maintenance, and copyright and trademark management.
