About the Program

Intended to encourage creativity and advance knowledge by granting creators exclusive rights in their work, intellectual property law must now keep pace with the rapid changes brought by artificial intelligence. This panel will focus on current rules of the road for using artificial intelligence in the creative process, the landmines to avoid, what content owners can do to protect their interests, and how existing law is being interpreted to balance the interests of new creators and existing rights holders. Panelists will discuss recent case law related to the use of data sets and other inputs, the boundaries of fair use, the standards applied by the copyright office when defining originality, and the amount of human expression required for copyright protection.
