A panel of experts will walk through myriad legal issues impacted by the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which overturned Roe v. Wade. The discussion will include an overview of subsequent reproductive rights cases, explanation of other decisions about related liberty interests that SCOTUS and other courts have handed down, and the results of state legislation and ballot initiatives, with a particular focus on California.

Minouche Kandel is a Senior Staff Attorney in the LGBTQ, Gender & Reproductive Justice Project at the ACLU of Southern California. She focuses on gender equity issues that intersect with sexual harassment and sexual violence, including advocacy around sex worker rights and safety. Minouche was previously the Women’s Policy Director at the San Francisco Department on the Status of Women (DOSW), where she helped to coordinate San Francisco’s response to domestic violence and human trafficking. Minouche staffed the San Francisco Mayor’s Task Force on Anti-Human Trafficking and the Family Violence Council. She helped craft human trafficking and domestic violence policies for San Francisco city departments.
Alyssa Morrison is a Reproductive Justice Staff Attorney for Lawyers for Good Government. Prior to joining L4GG, Alyssa spent 5 years working in constitutional impact litigation at the federal level with the Constitutional Law Center for Muslims in America (CLCMA). In her role at CLCMA, Alyssa’s practice was focused on challenging racial and religious discrimination in federal trial and appellate courts across the country. Alyssa is admitted to practice in the Second, Fourth, Fifth, Seventh, Ninth, and D.C. Circuit Courts of Appeal and is a member in good standing with the Texas State Bar. During law school, Alyssa was the recipient of the Judge Elmo B. Hunter Legal Clinic for Victims of Crimes Against Women scholarship, awarded for her work with asylum seekers and refugees at the Karnes City ICE Detention Center and as a student attorney with YMCA International Services. She holds a B.A. from Texas A&M
Professor Co brought extensive experience in the public and private sectors to academia, and now teaches numerous courses including Reproductive Rights and Justice. Prior to joining the McGeorge faculty, she spent nearly a decade as a career clerk in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California. Prior to that position, she was Counsel at NARAL Pro-Choice America in Washington, DC, where among other things she led the organization’s program to reduce racial and ethnic disparities in reproductive health care. She received her BA from UC Berkeley and her JD from Georgetown University Law Center.
