Bobby Schwartz and Gene Phillips examine the common mistakes economists and scientists make when serving as expert witnesses. The program will provide real world examples of these costly mistakes and how they can impact litigation. Whether you are the retaining attorney or are examining an opposing witness, you will learn how to spot these mistakes, understand their limiting impact on the expert’s evidence, and use the expert’s mistake to bolster your case. Our presenters will simplify scientific concepts to make them easy to digest, enabling you to watch out for the same issues in your experts’ reports, or seize on them in the opposition’s reports.
Ask the speaker a question. Email and be sure to include the program name in the subject line.
Robert M. (“Bobby”) Schwartz is a partner in Quinn Emanuel’s Los Angeles office and co-chair of the Media & Entertainment Industry Practice. Over the last 30 years, Bobby has become a nationally recognized leader in large-stakes and often precedent-setting cases, particularly in the entertainment and media fields. He has represented every major motion picture studio and broadcast network, as well as film production companies, pay TV services, video game developers, record companies, recording artists, producers, writers, directors, and actors. He has had extensive experience and success in copyright, trademark, unfair competition, royalties and participations, First Amendment, defamation, employment, and complex business disputes. As noted in the Notable Representations tab, he has also handled substantial disputes for companies well outside the media industry and entertainment industries.
Gene Phillips is the Chief Executive Officer at PF2. Gene was previously on the buy-side at a hedge fund within Citigroup Alternative Investments. He began his career in the Derivatives group at Moody’s Investors Service. Gene has written extensive research on debt and credit concerns, including pricing and manipulation in the realm of corporate and structured finance securities; litigation and cultural concerns at financial institutions; and whether credit ratings should be afforded First Amendment protections. More recently, he has concentrated on inefficiencies in market mechanisms. His research and commentary has received numerous press citations in publications such as The Financial Times, New York Times, Wall Street Journal and BusinessWeek. Gene holds a BSc degree in mathematics and applied mathematics, and a BSc Hons degree in the Advanced Mathematics of Financial Derivatives, from the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa.
