Digital assets and blockchain technology constitute an exciting new sector of the economy. But with innovation inevitably comes legal disputes, including governmental regulatory enforcement and private litigation. In this program, we first provide a brief overview of digital assets, including their history and how the technology works. Then, we describe some of the most notable government enforcement actions in the digital assets space, including the actions taken against Ripple, Coinbase, and more. Finally, we discuss some common areas of private digital assets litigation, including some of the recurring theories and themes we see in those cases.
Jason Gottlieb is a Partner and Chair of the Digital Assets Department and White Collar & Regulatory Enforcement Group at Morrison Cohen LLP. His practice focuses on regulatory enforcement, litigation, and arbitration related to cryptocurrency, securities, commodities, futures, derivatives, and structured finance. Jason primarily defends companies and individuals in the digital assets space in investigations and enforcement actions by governmental or self-regulatory agencies. He also advises U.S. and foreign companies on blockchain and cryptocurrency law concerning litigation and regulatory risk issues.
Daniel Isaacs is a Partner and Senior Counsel at Morrison Cohen LLP, focusing on regulatory enforcement, investigations, litigation, and arbitration related to securities, cryptocurrency, digital assets, commodities, futures, derivatives, and structured finance. He regularly advises U.S. and foreign companies on blockchain and cryptocurrency law concerning litigation and regulatory risk issues. Additionally, Daniel defends and advises companies and individuals in investigations and enforcement actions by governmental and self-regulatory agencies, including the SEC, CFTC, Department of Justice, FINRA, and state attorneys general and securities regulators.
