About the Program

A child’s statement of sexual assault made to a third party is now admissible hearsay in Family Law DVPA proceedings. This presentation will examine the new challenges for family law attorneys with the Dependency Hearsay Exception application in some of the most sensitive and highly contested restraining order hearings involving children.

Geanene M. Yriarte serves as a judge on the Superior Court of Los Angeles County in California. She was appointed to the bench by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2009 and has since been re-elected. Her current term extends until January 8, 2029.

In the June 7, 2022, primary election, Yriarte secured re-election unopposed, leading to the cancellation of both the primary and general elections.

Yriarte earned her bachelor’s degree from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, and her Juris Doctor from Loyola Law School. Before her judicial appointment, she worked as a deputy district attorney for Los Angeles County.

Judge Goldberg has earned a statewide reputation for his expertise in family law and general litigation matters. Appointed to the Los Angeles Superior Court Judge in 2003, he spent six years in criminal court and 10 years in family court. He managed all types of family law disputes and he also has extensive experience handling high-profile and celebrity cases as an Assisting Supervising Judge of family law. For four years, Judge Goldberg ran the Family Law settlement court, where he settled thousands of family law matters and related civil cases. His exceptional settlement rate earned him an excellent reputation for resolving matters and offering creative solutions for complex financial and child custody matters. He served to terms as Assistant Supervising Judge of the Family Law Division.
