The Newly Passed SB 574: Regulating the Use of AI in the Practice of Law

About this program
California is often on the cutting-edge of new laws and ethical rules, particularly when it comes to overseeing the conduct of attorneys. With the passing of Senate Bill 574, legal professionals’ use of generative artificial intelligence is now officially codified in California. The Bill and resulting new Business & Professions Code Section 6068, and expanded Section 6173, prohibit lawyers from delegating the practice of law to AI, restrict sharing confidential information, and impose new requirements of public disclosure, among other requirements.
This program will explore the boundaries of the new law as it relates to lawyers, mediators, arbitrators, and judges. Attendees will leave with a clear understanding of the impact of these new regulations on their use of AI, and the changes and practice guardrails they can employ to ensure they are in compliance.
This OnDemand CLE program earns 1 hour of Technology credit in California. It aired October 26, 2026 and features Marshall R. Cole.
