About the Program

On Day 1, the Trump Administration issued a series of Executive Orders and memos aimed at immigrants. These orders have targeted the right to seek protection in the U.S., access to legal counsel for immigrants facing removal, and even birthright citizenship — undermining the fundamental protections that all Americans rely upon.

Join VECINA and We The Action for an overview of what these changes mean, and how pro bono attorneys can join the nationwide efforts to stand in solidarity with immigrants by protecting the immigration system and the rule of law in the U.S.

Victoria is the Associate Director of Partnerships at We The Action. Victoria’s greatest passion is helping people, especially marginalized communities, although karaoke comes in at a close second. Before joining the team, she served as the Aide to Associate Justice Sonia Sotomayor at the Supreme Court of the United States. Victoria is the proud daughter of Mexican immigrants and is a graduate of California State University, Fullerton.

Interim Executive Director, VECINA

Alex Miller is the Interim Executive Director at VECINA. She is deeply committed to the immigration justice movement and has broad experience representing asylum seekers, advocating for migrants’ access to justice, and working to amplify the impact of pro bono volunteers. After working in corporate law in New York for five years, Alex moved back to her hometown of Tucson, Arizona to work at the Florence Immigrant and Refugee Rights Project, ultimately leading their Border Action Team. From there, she joined the International Rescue Committee as the Director for Asylum Seekers and Families in Arizona, managing one of the primary border shelters in the state of Arizona. More recently, she was the Director of the Immigration Justice Campaign at the American Immigration Council, where she led a team dedicated to recruiting, training, and mentoring pro bono attorneys to increase migrants’ access to counsel. Alex attended Georgetown University for undergrad and Stanford Law School. Alex has taught Refugee Law and Policy as an Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Arizona.

VECINA

Jennie Guilfoyle is the Legal Director at VECINA. Previously, she served as the Deputy Legal Director for the Immigration Justice Campaign at the American Immigration Council.

Before joining the Council, Jennie spent four years as an Attorney Adviser at the U.S. Department of State in the Bureau of Consular Affairs, focusing on issues such as citizenship and intercountry adoption. Earlier in her career, she worked as a Senior Training Attorney at the Catholic Legal Immigration Network, where she designed and led in-person and online trainings on a variety of immigration law topics. She also worked at Church World Service, training refugee resettlement programs on immigration law and program management.

Jennie began her legal career as an Equal Justice Works fellow at the New York Association for New Americans, representing asylum and VAWA applicants. She currently resides in Washington, D
