David is an international law academic and author. His work is a distinctive combination of academic achievement, corporate “hands-on” experience and an extensive media/writing track record. He is Assistant Professor in the School of Law and Criminology at the National University of Ireland Maynooth (NUIM), Adjunct Professor at the Faculté de Droit, L’Université Catholique de Lyon (UCLy), and an Associate Fellow of the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (IALS), University of London. His teaching, research and advisory work spans law and technology, cyberlaw, compliance and legal ethics, entertainment law, and legal communication. His books include a ground-breaking legal text “Law and Technology” (Bloomsbury, 2025), “Effective Communication for Lawyers: A Practical Guide” (Edward Elgar, 2022), and “Strategic Internal Communication: How to Build Employee Engagement and Performance” (Kogan Page, 2014; 2nd edn. 2016).
Before entering academia, David worked in journalism, corporate communications and public affairs, living and working across Europe, US, Canada, the Gulf and Asia. He has led global M&A, business integration, communication, compliance, and digital projects, and delivered leadership workshops on five continents, holding leadership and consultancy roles across the finance, technology, and industrial sectors. As a writer and editor, he worked for legal, technology, and financial media, including the Financial Times, Euromoney, Reed International, and numerous technology, finance, and legal trade journals. He has also contributed to research and writing projects for the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
David is a graduate of the University of Oxford, The Honorable Society of King’s Inns, and the University of St Andrews, where he earned his PhD in International Relations. He is a former Visiting Scholar at Boston College, USA, and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA). He is a member of the Society of Legal Scholars (SLS), and an academic member of the Los Angeles Intellectual Property Law Association (LAIPLA), Beverly Hills Bar Association (BHBA), Association of Media & Entertainment Counsel (AMEC), and the Bar of Ireland’s Media, Internet, and Data Protection Bar Association (MIDBA).
