Complex Chapter 11 Procedures in the Central District

Neil Bason teaches a Judicial Externship seminar as part of UCLA School of Law’s part-time externship program. He is currently a Judge of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Central District of California located in downtown Los Angeles and is a frequent speaker on bankruptcy issues. Prior to taking the bench, Judge Bason was special counsel at Duane Morris LLP in Los Angeles and San Francisco, where he represented bankruptcy trustees in recovery and disposition of property and claim objections, and loan servicers, receivers, and other parties in debtor-creditor matters. He was also special counsel at Howard Rice Nemerovski Canday Falk & Rabkin P.C. (now combined with Arnold & Porter LLP), where he represented debtors, creditors, equity holders and purchasers in complex Chapter 11 proceedings.

Richard Wynne has a national reputation for successfully representing company and creditor/bondholder clients in complex restructurings in a wide variety of industries. He focuses on solving clients’ most challenging problems by designing and implementing negotiations and litigation strategy, and serving as lead trial counsel.

Sharon Weiss brings an exceptional breadth of local, state, and national level bankruptcy community ties to her insolvency practice. Zev Shechtman represents debtors, creditors, creditors’ committees, trustees, shareholders, asset purchasers, and other parties in bankruptcy, restructuring, and insolvency matters. He has assisted clients in a variety of industries, including entertainment, aviation, real estate, food and restaurants, trucking, healthcare, media, retail, e-commerce, telecommunications, and energy. He is often sought to assist legal teams dealing with complex litigation or transactions requiring bankruptcy expertise.

Zev served as 2021-2022 President of the Los Angeles Bankruptcy Forum and is a former chair of the Bankruptcy Section of the Beverly Hills Bar Association. Zev is a member of the board of the Anti-Defamation League’s Pacific Southwest Region and supports the pro bono legal services of Bet Tzedek and Public Counsel’s Debtor Assistance Project. He is an editorial board member of the California Bankruptcy Journal and the California Lawyers Association’s Business Law News. While a law student at the University of Southern California, Zev served as Managing Editor of the Southern California Review of Law & Social Justice.
